A first swim in the lake of Zurich

After work I joined my good friend Barbara and her 3 great children to go for a swim at the Zurich Lake. There is a secure area for children for swim, like a small island next the lake shore. It was my first swim in the lake of Zurich. The air temperature, 24 degrees, sunshine and blue sky. The water temperature is 20 degrees, so it was really refreshing. I swam out to the next lake pole and back again, the water is crytal clear and not salty as we are use to our beaches back home. No waves, it was calm and I could actually swim with the ducks in that area.
This is a favourite past time of the Zurich people to enjoy their lake and there are many great lake shores to enjoy a swim at the lake.
It was past 6 pm and it was still so still and calm. We all sat down and had a great picknic, then out of a blue a swan came over to our picknic and tried to pick off some food from us. We had to quickly move as the big swan was rather aggresive pleading for food. It was quite adventurous as I never did encounter such an agressive swan. It seems that this swan did not only tried to attack Barbara but also was chasing after other people who were sun basking. Well... it was around 9 pm and the sun is slowing dissapearing behind the mountains and it gave such a sense of serenity and such a sense of How Great the Lord our Creator is. A hymm arise in my heart... how great thy art.

A tough job

Today I had to take on a few job interviews for a position which I would like to fill in. Something which really bothered me after the 2nd interview was that how shabby and disorganize the candidates can arrive at the day of the interview. I took time to read through their resumee and prepare questions and be ready for that occasion, meaning that costs me time and mental preparation.
But to my horror I find many ignorant or simply shabby candidates came up to my restaurant and took things much too casual to my distaste. So I decided to blog this down and jot down some tips on how to make a good impression at the job interview. I mean I am now at the other side of the table and it is a learning for process for me too, to ask the right questions.

1)Dress for the position. - don't dress up like a rag esp in jeans and old tshirt
2)Be neat. Check for missing buttons, dragging hems, split seams, etc. - brush your teeth !!!! pleeeze.......
Avoid jangling jewelry or "new wave" fashion.don't show off your whole wardrobe - especially when it distracts. No nose or tongue accessories. it is ok if you are looking for a job as junk punk singer other than that... stay low key.
3)Appear fresh and rested, interested and alert. - stop asking the same question when it has been answered twice... wake up !!!
4)Arrive promptly for your appointment. - It is an insult to keep the party which could be your future employer waiting. The job market is vast and there are so many candidates out there applying each day. So do honor the company by coming in early.

Your Conduct During the Interview

1)Be positive about your qualifications. - don't over or underestimate your qualifications. don't brag if you cannot deliver or don't have the qualification.

2)Avoid judgmental remarks about previous jobs or bosses. - very important !! as the world is small and you may never know who knows who. And that show how much intergrity you have towards your previous job and your employer. If you can making remarks about your previous bosses, you can easily make remarks about your present and your future bosses too.

3)Learn the names of your interviewers and their positions in the organization. - not too difficult if you are given a name card and there are perhaps only 2 person interviewing you.

4)Indicate areas of the job to which you can apply previous experience and training. - huh !!??? experience is taboo. You should know where you are trained at.

Well... it is an interesting irritating day and I think I shall just hit the sack and get ready for a long day of interview tomorrow...(sigh)

Simplicity defined...

. Simplicity is contra Complexity

Simplify and reduce to the basic when you want to understand the core foundation of creation. The creator God .... bringing out the best in it's simplest form for our eyes to feast on.... Take time to observe, to appreciate and to just be child like to take in all the daily things we come across. Take time to pause for a while... and smile.

Weekend Trip to Frankfurt, Germany

I was granted a weekend trip to Frankfurt paid by my company as a reward for my good result in the business. Praise God !!!! This trip is meant to bring some exposure to the various combinations of restaurant concepts around Europe.

So my brother Danny and I travel to Frankfurt to check out the local culinary concepts, as he is working on an offer for a client. We took a city tour looking into various hip and top restaurants around the city. Frankfurt is an industrial area so there is not much sightseeing one can do. But I have attached some beautiful architectural building design that accessorize the whole city sky line. It addes glamour and a touch of creativity. Frankfurt is a small city and it has long shopping allies with big shopping malls. That is what I call... walk till you drop, or rather shop till you drop. The train trip from Zurich to Frankfurt is about 4 hours. Danny has more pics, so I will see if I can get more pics from him to share it with you. A good trip to really see what is going around the culinary business in Germany, how simplicity can go a long way.

The meeting

Just attended a whole day training at the main office of my firm. There were several other managers who were there for training too from all over the region. I really want to thank and praise God at the end of the dark tunnel that finally my hard work of 3 years has paid off. The regional and area supervisor has voiced out their contentment and has bought up my restaurant many times as a prime example of good managment and consistant creativity in the culinary and drinks coodination. This is the first time that I realise that despite all those harsh and hard training, it paid it off. There were many times when I had doubts that I am in the right business, due to my lack of training in the culinary business. At times I really thought that I am just being bullied from my previous area supervisor. But God has heard my prayers and has removed him and given me a new supervisor who is consistent and very helpful in making things happen. He has been in for 3 months and there were so many things that has happened within the firm. So that was my answer to assist him to help open up a new restaurant.

I sense that the management team is much more efficient and creative. It just encourages me to dare to be creative again with their help and support. I am really happy and I want to give God all the glory.

too tired...

Today after work, it was so humid and hot in Zurich. I fell asleep in the tram and landed up at the end station. Exhaustion just overwhelmed me as there was no aircondition and the sun was just blazing at all corners of the tram. Thank God that I do not live far away from the end station, meaning I can always still stay on it and it make another journey back home. So ended up later then I plan to cook dinner. Here is a pic that really show how I sleepy I felt after work.

A day away with Andrew

We took a ride at the local fair. It was European
Football Mastership and Switzerland co host this event. Down town look like the whole world was cropped up in this small city. It was a good experience to watch all the nation before your footstep. We took the big great wheel to see the city from above. And we sat in the cabin called Switzerland, hmm... must mean something. Am in the right place.

Quote of the day

Joyce Meyer magazine came in today and there is one article on progressive living and it hit home. Wanted to share with all of you

Every time God is ready to bring us up higher, there is going to be new opposition that come against us. As I say, new level, new devil. It could be something we've dealt with in the past that comes back against us in a stronger way than before- or something new that we've never dealt with.
If we plan to progress in life, we need to know that there's a price to pay.

how true........
